Jessica Chastain to preside over 20th Marrakech International Film Festival

Oscar-winning American actress Jessica Chastain will chair the jury for the 20th Marrakech International Film Festival, scheduled to run from November 24 to December 02, 2023.

Her jury will award the Golden Star to one of the 14 first and second features in the international competition, dedicated to discovering filmmakers from around the world, organizers said in a statement.

“It’s an honor to preside over the jury of the prestigious Marrakech Festival, which is being held for the 20th time this year, and I’m delighted to be returning after my last participation in 2011.

To be entrusted with this role is a privilege, and I look forward to celebrating the extraordinary talents of world cinema,” said Jessica Chastain, quoted by the same source.

In the space of the last decade, Jessica Chastain has established herself as one of Hollywood’s leading actresses, taking on a string of starring roles with such renowned directors as Terrence Malick, Kathryn Bigelow, Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott.

She has received numerous awards for her outstanding performances in front of the camera, and for the exemplary quality of the projects she has been involved in as a producer.

In 2022, she won Best Actress at the 94th Academy Awards for her portrayal of the inimitable Tammy Faye in “In the Eyes of Tammy Faye” (2021).

In 2016, she founded Freckle Films, a New York-based production company for film and television. In addition to “355”, “In the Eyes of Tammy Faye” and “George &Tammy”, Freckle Films is currently developing the series adaptation of two novels, “Lui & moi” by Alice Feeney and “L’École des bonnes mères” by Jessamine Chan. Michel Franco’s “Memory”, produced by Freckle Films and co-starring Peter Saarsgard, will be released shortly.

In her return to Broadway after more than a decade, she recently shone in the revival of Ibsen’s classic play “A Doll’s House”, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Theatrical Role.

She also won the Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Performance in a Leading Theatrical Role”, according to the press release.
