Italian personalities hail Morocco’s role in the stability of the Mediterranean

Eminent Italian personalities hailed the leadership of King Mohammed VI and the “strategic” role played by Morocco in the stability of the Mediterranean, highlighting the direct mediation of the Kingdom which led to the opening, without interruption, of the post -Allenby/King Hussein border, linking the West Bank and Jordan.

This initiative constitutes a big step forward »with a view to promoting stability in the Middle East, said the vice-president of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Ettore Rosato, quoted by the Italian press agency (AGI), welcoming the direct mediation of the Kingdom which made it possible “to inaugurate a new phase of dialogue and peace in the region”.

This mediation “confirms the leading geopolitical role of Morocco at the international level”underlined, for her part, the Italian senator and co-coordinator of the parliamentary intergroup in support of the autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara, Urania Papatheu, noting that the opening of the said border post is of paramount importance at the humanitarian level.

“The Mediterranean needs bridges and interconnections at political, economic and cultural levels, in order to overcome tensions and guarantee the stability of the region”, indicated the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Senate, quoted by the transalpine news agency (ANSA), welcoming, in this sense, the mediation efforts of the Kingdom which allowed the opening of the Allenby bridge.

This mediation “brings a glimmer of hope and reflects signs of openness towards a process of peace and economic development in the Mediterranean”said Andrea Cafà, president of Cifa Italia, one of the largest professional associations in Italy, noting that actions like this “must be reinforced in all the countries of the African continent and supported by Europe, with a view to to boost bilateral economic and social relations”.

For its part, the Italian Einaudi Foundation, chaired by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giulio Terzi, highlighted in a press release Rabat’s commitment to the Abraham Accords, which aim to promote peace and boost development at the regional level.
