Israel on Monday appointed its first military attaché to Morocco. According to the Israeli press, it is the colonel of Moroccan origin Sharon Itach.
The Israeli army, Tsahal, has appointed Sharon Itach, a colonel from the Home Front command. He currently leads the Haifa District of the Home Front Command. Previously, he led the 489th “Kedem” Search and Rescue Battalion.
The appointment is signed by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, and comes as part of a series of high-ranking appointments within the military.
This first appointment is explained by continuous and strengthening security ties between Morocco and Israel since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020.
It also comes at the same time when the State of Israel decided to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
