Iraqi activist Salwan Najem applied for a permit to hold a Quran-burning protest outside Sweden’s parliament, following previous protests carried out by Salwan Momika.
The protest is scheduled to coincide with a digital meeting of leaders from 57 Muslim countries, discussing responses to ongoing Quran-burning protests in Sweden and Denmark.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has already ejected Sweden from its organization and called for new laws criminalizing Quran desecration.
In response, Sweden’s Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, is reviewing laws surrounding public gatherings, while Denmark seeks legal means to ban Quran burnings outside national embassies.
