International Women’s Day: Screening in Rabat of the Australian documentary film “Brazen Hussies”

On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, the Australian Embassy in Morocco is organizing, on Wednesday March 09, 2022 from 6 p.m. at the Renaissance Cinema, the screening of the Australian documentary film “Brazen Hussies”.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Moroccan women’s rights activists. The debate will be moderated by Soumaya Naamane Guessous, sociologist and champion of women’s rights, Sanaa El Aji, sociologist and publication director of Marayana.com and Sarah Benmoussa, activist and co-founder of the #7achak movement.

“Brazen Hussies” is a documentary film by Catherine Dwyer which reveals for the first time an exciting and revolutionary chapter in Australian history, the Women’s Liberation Movement during the 1960s.

Interweaving freshly unearthed archival footage, personal photographs, memories and vivid testimonies from activists across Australia, ‘Brazen Hussies’ shows how a group of daring and diverse women have come together to challenge the status quo. , demand equality and create profound change in the social landscape.

These women, who left their mark on this international movement, defined one of the greatest social movements of the 20th century, sometimes at great expense.

This cultural event presents an opportunity for the Moroccan public, especially the younger generation to discover the stories of over a hundred famous women who have changed Australia and the status of women’s rights.

Rbati audiences have a date on March 9 with a documentary full of energy and determination that has fueled the fight for women’s rights for the past 50 years. The Australian Ambassador to Morocco will participate in this event along with women ambassadors accredited to Morocco as well as activists and representatives of associations working daily for women’s rights.

After screenings at the Brisbane International Film Festival and the Adelaide Film Festival, Brazen Hussies was released to the public on November 7, 2020 and has since screened at various International Festivals including the Turkish Human Rights Documentary Film Days Festival. man at the French Cultural Institute in Izmir in December 2021 and FIFO International Oceanian Documentary Film Festival in Tahiti in February 2022.
