German international Ilkay Gündogan, champion of the Champions League with Manchester City, has signed a two-year contract with FC Barcelona, the Catalan club announced on Monday.
“The midfielder, a recent Champions League winner, joins Barca until 2025,” Barca said in a statement, adding that the 32-year-old’s release clause is 400 million euros.
Gündogan could extend his contract at Barca “by an additional optional year” depending on the matches played until 2025, Barca added.
Arrived in June 2016 from Borussia Dortmund, Gündogan played seven seasons with the Citizens and won five league titles, a Champions League, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
This season he has made 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals.
