Here is the evolution of fuel prices in Morocco during the last 6 months

Since the beginning of 2022, prices at the pump have increased considerably, an increase linked to the post-covid economic recovery, but above all the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. But observers point to the government’s inaction in the face of fuel distributors who don’t want to let go of a penny in terms of their profit margin. In January 2022, the price of diesel was 10.10 DH against 11.79 DH for gasoline. In the space of a month, the price of diesel increased by 0.75 cents to reach 10.85 DH in February, while the price of gasoline increased by 1.13 DH to reach 12.92 DH.

From February to March, the price of diesel soared by 2.11 DH to reach 12.92 DH, while the price of petrol rose in one month by 1.06 DH to reach 13.98 DH. This meteoric rise did not stop there. In April, the price of gasoline reached 14.16 Dh (+0.18 cents), while the price of diesel rose from 12.96 to 13.73 Dhs in the same month (+0.77 cents).

In May of the same year, the price of diesel stood at 14.58 DH (+0.85 cents), a level never reached before, while the price of gasoline reached 15.43 DH (+1.27 DH).

For this month of June, and despite the cry of distress from citizens and transport professionals, the price of diesel has reached 15.63 DH (+1.05 DH), against 17.78 DH (+2.35 DH) for gasoline.

This upward trend in fuel prices, although justified by the extension of European sanctions against Russia, the war in Ukraine or even the post-covid economic recovery, remains incomprehensible for citizens whose power to purchase and the standard of living has been strongly impacted, especially when the government does not provide any concrete solution to their suffering.

The government has contented itself with allocating “exceptional” support to road transport professionals, to cope with this increase in fuel prices in order to avoid any disruption in the cost of transport for citizens and in the price of transporting goods. .

If the price of transport did not undergo a strong increase, the prices of the goods, them, increased in all the directions. To justify certain increases, product production or transport companies have not failed to argue that fuel prices are rising and that the aid allocated by the State remains insufficient. In the end, it is the citizen who continues to pay the costs, regardless of their social class.
