The Moroccan handball selection has won the third position of the 25th edition of the African Nations Championship (CAN) of handball, which takes place in Egypt, after its victory Monday in a classification match against Tunisia by 28 to 24.
Thus, Morocco will play in Group G at the 2023 World Handball World Cup, which will take place in Poland and Sweden, alongside Croatia, the United States and the winner of the African Championship final played on Monday evening between Egypt and Cape Verde.
As for the Tunisian selection, fourth in the tournament, it will play in Group H of the World Cup with Denmark, Belgium and Bahrain.
National coach Noureddine Bouhaddioui’s protégés won the first half 14-12, then continued their domination in the second half thanks to the exceptional performances of goalkeeper Jamal Aouali, and players Nabil Bentaleb and Mahdi Allaoui, the latter having been named man of the match.
During this African Championship, Morocco defeated Cameroon by 35 to 28, then lost to Egypt, the host country, by 21 to 36, in the group stage. In the quarter-finals, the national team beat Guinea (28-24), before losing to Cape Verde in the semi-finals (19-23).
