The head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, spoke on Wednesday in Rabat with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte. The two leaders discussed economic issues, renewable energies, and the links between the Netherlands and Morocco.
Mark Rutte arrived in Morocco for an official visit accompanied by a large delegation of officials and businessmen. The Netherlands intends to develop its relations with Morocco and “promote bilateral cooperation in all areas”, indicated a statement from the cabinet of Aziz Akhannouch.
The two men chaired the closing session of a round table on green hydrogen, organized on the sidelines of this visit and the signing of a memorandum of understanding and a partnership agreement.
The meeting highlighted the economic and environmental potential of green hydrogen in Morocco, while confirming the continental and international status of the kingdom in terms of the development of renewable energies.
During his talks with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the head of the Moroccan government welcomed the quality of the centuries-old friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, established for more than four centuries .
Relations between the two countries have experienced a very positive dynamic in recent years and the two officials noted that it is able to promote the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two Kingdoms.
In this regard, Aziz Akhannouch and Mark Rutte referred to the content of the joint Morocco-Netherlands press release adopted in May 2022 in Marrakech, “which constitutes a real roadmap for bilateral relations and enshrines the common desire to continue political dialogue. at all levels and to work through joint mechanisms to strengthen cooperation in the economic, social and cultural fields”, indicates the same source.
The Head of Government expressed Morocco’s thanks for the positive and constructive attitude of the Kingdom of the Netherlands towards the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, which supports the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations and considers that the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 is a serious and credible contribution to the political process led by the United Nations.
On the economic level, he recalled the business opportunities in Morocco and the incentives offered by the new investment charter and by the Mohammed VI Fund for Investment, as well as by the national green hydrogen strategy which will be adopted soon, in accordance with the guidelines of King Mohammed VI.
The two men underlined “the need to identify new areas of cooperation in areas of common interest, capable of establishing a strategic framework for economic cooperation, promoting investment and strengthening trade”, the statement continued. .
In addition, they discussed the organization of a business forum between economic operators in the two countries, in order to explore existing investment opportunities in priority sectors, such as renewable energies, water resources management , agriculture, the fight against the effects of climate change, and other areas of sustainable development.
The talks also focused on several regional and international issues of common interest, including tripartite cooperation for the benefit of friendly African countries, with a view to enabling Dutch companies wishing to invest in Africa to benefit from the experience and expertise Moroccans, given the privileged status of the kingdom within its continent and the significant presence of the Moroccan public and private sectors in several African countries.
