Gianni Infantino has no shortage of ideas when it comes to the World Cup. The FIFA president, present at a conference in Israel, suggested that the Hebrew state co-organize the World 2030 with some of its neighboring states led by the United Arab Emirates. Information revealed by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett via a short statement on Wednesday.
The destination of the 2030 World Cup is expected to be decided in 2024, and Infantino has already launched a potential host. Not content with wanting to organize the World Cup every two years, the FIFA president now wants to do what generations of politicians have failed to do: bring peace to the Middle East.
Infantino met Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday evening as part of his visit to the country. Together they discussed the possibility of bringing the World Cup to the country.
Former US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman were also present at the meeting, according to a statement.
Mnuchin and Friedman were among several prominent members of the Trump administration in Jerusalem this week, attending a series of events aimed at advancing the Abrahamic Accords, a series of normalization agreements between Israel and the states Arabs.
The Abraham Accords are a normalization agreement negotiated by the United States, to normalize relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.
“You have to have a vision, dreams and ambitions. For the past few months, I was in Dubai where the United Arab Emirates Football Association and the Israel Football Association signed a historic agreement ”said Infantino, according to a FIFA statement.
“I think co-hosting is the future, so why not dream about it and think about it – whether at the youth or senior level, men or women – because the FIFA World Cup has this unique magic of bringing people together and uniting people ”, he added.
In 2026, the World Cup will be co-hosted between the United States, Mexico and Canada after the North American bid defeated Morocco in a vote in 2018. It will be the first time that the world will be shared between three host nations.
