French ambassador to Niger Sylvain Itté, whose departure the ruling military had been demanding for several weeks, left the capital Niamey on Wednesday morning, according to a diplomatic source at the French embassy, and a source close to the Ministry of the Interior in Niger.
The diplomatic source said, “The ambassador and six of his aides left Niamey at approximately four o’clock (03:00 GMT) in the morning” on Wednesday.
The ministerial source confirmed this, noting that the plane carrying them headed to Chad.
