The former car tycoon, Carlos Ghosn, was targeted Friday by an international arrest warrant from French justice in an investigation instructed in particular for abuse of corporate assets and money laundering with a distributor in Oman.
The former boss of the Renault Nissan alliance (RNBV), who has resided in Lebanon since his spectacular flight from Japan, is banned from leaving the country.
The Franco-Lebanese-Brazilian is the target of an investigation into nearly 15 million euros in payments considered suspicious between RNBV and the car manufacturer’s distributor in Oman, Suhail Bahwan Automobiles (SBA).
Several French judges went to Beirut to audition him before issuing this arrest warrant, which is not part of the case which has pitted him against Nissan in Japan since November 2018, the date of his arrest.
Carlos Ghosn, was suspected of failing to report part of his income at Nissan to Japanese stock exchange authorities between 2010 and 2015 and was later charged with concealment of income.
For the case in France, at this stage the warrant has not yet been executed, but if it were to be, Ghosn should appear before an examining magistrate in Nanterre before his indictment.
Five international arrest warrants have been issued as part of this investigation and target “the current owners or former managers of the Omani company SBA”, according to the prosecution.
