Forest fires: 290 million DHS allocated to victim support measures

Pursuant to high royal directives, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, on Friday July 22, 2022 in Rabat, the signing ceremony of a framework agreement for the implementation of a series of urgent measures aimed at mitigating the impact of recent fires on agricultural activity and forests, and to provide support to affected local populations. The cost of implementing these measures is around 290 million dirhams.

This framework agreement was signed by Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, Fatim Ezzahra El Mansouri, Minister of National Territorial Development, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy, and by Mohammed Saddiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Labor and Skills, as well as by Mohamed Mhidiya, wali of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, Saïd Zniber, wali of the Fez-Meknes region, Omar Mourou, president of the Council of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region and Abdelouhed Al Ansari, president of the Council of the Fez-Meknes region.

This agreement, which aims to mitigate the impact of the fires that occurred in July 2022 on the population, includes the taking of various measures, in the short and medium terms, with a view to providing support to the population for the repair of dwellings. identified by the public authorities, to launch reforestation operations on some 9,330 hectares and to restore the affected fruit trees, to strengthen the means of preventing and fighting new fires and to mitigate the impact livestock breeders and beekeepers in the affected regions, while continuing to implement integrated economic development projects in the affected areas.

The agreement also relates to the creation of 1,000 additional job opportunities in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, dedicated to the people affected and their family members to work on the sites of the awrach program.

The Head of Government affirmed that the intervention teams belonging to the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces, the Civil Protection and the National Agency for Water and Forests, were mobilized, in accordance with the high instructions royal authorities, to put out the fires, provide support to the affected populations and protect their property, welcoming the total mobilization of all stakeholders to control these fires.

The Head of Government also called on all stakeholders to ensure the immediate implementation of the emergency measures adopted in order to mitigate the impact of the fires on agricultural activity and forests and support the population affected by these disasters. occurred during the month of July 2022.
