Authorities, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education, and stakeholders in the publishing industry, have removed a foreign textbook promoting homosexuality from several bookstores and major markets in Rabat.
Camille Hoballah, President of the Moroccan Publishers Association said that parents voiced their objections on social media, prompting professionals to reach out to the Ministry of National Education.
Hoballah explained that the association issued notifications to all bookstores, mandating the withdrawal of the controversial French book.
In a statement to MoroccoLatestNews AR, Hoballah stated that the notice extended across the country, after publishers gathered information pointing to the book’s promotion of homosexuality.
Hoballah emphasized that the book’s content contradicts Moroccan societal norms and values, thereby urging caution on the part of book importers.
Elaborating further, he acknowledged the challenge writers face in reviewing textbook due to their sheer volume.
Consequently, Hoballah called upon the Ministry of National Education to take charge of overseeing foreign books targeting scholarship students.
Addressing the issue, an official from the Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified that the campaign initiated by administrative bodies in Rabat does not fall within its purview.
The ministry underscored that pedagogical oversight falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports.
