Endeavor announced that Sophia Alj and Ismael Belkhayat, co-founders of the startup Chari, were crowned “Endeavor Entrepreneurs” unanimously by the jury during the International Selection Panel which took place from January 24 to 26, and which saw the consecration of seven companies from Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, Bulgaria, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Morocco.
This international Panel, sponsored by General Atlantic, Axa, Bain, Ernst & Young, HSBC and Silicon Valley Bank, brought together several brilliant, determined entrepreneurs, precursors in various sectors and all nourishing one and the same ambition: to grow their businesses while positively impacting their environments.
Chari thus starts the year 2022 in style: It is Sophia Alj and Ismael Belkhayat, co-founders of the Moroccan startup, who represented Morocco and were distinguished among the best entrepreneurs in the world; Chari thus joins the ranks of other prestigious Endeavor companies such as: Anghami, Brex, Cabify, Careem, Checkout.com, Flutterwave, Glovo, Instashop, PropertyFinder or Yassir.
The Endeavor process is rigorous. To win the famous sesame, which opens wide the doors of a network of high-flying international entrepreneurs and investors, you have to meet 2 criteria: be “scalable”i.e. leading an innovative company with very high growth potential, and engaging in the “give back” : the entrepreneur in turn agrees to share his knowledge and experience with other entrepreneurs in the Endeavor network.
The consecration of Chari’s co-founders is the result of a long and rigorous selection process both nationally and internationally. Sophia and Ismael were accompanied for 18 months by Endeavor mentors who helped them to strengthen their ambition, refine their strategy and better understand their challenges. Note that the selection process is an extremely elite exercise; Internationally, only 5% of candidates win the prestigious sesame before the International Selection Panels. “We have met fascinating mentors, having succeeded in Morocco and abroad. They are there to listen to us and criticize us, it’s something extraordinary. It is an experience that has allowed us to review our own project from different angles, and improve it to grow even more,” testifies Sophia Alj.
“I couldn’t be more proud to welcome Sophia and Ismael as Endeavor entrepreneurs. They fit perfectly with our culture of high growth with high impact and ‘give-back’ that our organization advocates. We are confident that they will be a catalyst for the Francophone African entrepreneurial ecosystem” announced Linda Rottenberg, co-founder and CEO of Endeavor.
By selecting Chari as Enterprise Endeavor, the juries selected a company with high economic potential in terms of growth and innovation. They chose two passionate entrepreneurs, with the firm will to contribute to the stimulation of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Morocco. During the deliberations, Christopher Schroeder, founder of Next Billion Ventures and member of the jury, said: “Our choice is clear: with bold ambition, Sophia and Ismael have done a spectacular job of achieving strong traction while helping small traders thrive. Congratulations for Chari. »
