The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) officially confirmed the cancellation of the scheduled match between the Moroccan and Eritrean national football teams on November 16, part of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA attributed the cancellation to the withdrawal of the Eritrean team, known as the “Red Camels,” which had been announced two weeks earlier due to an internal problem.
Zemede Tekle,, the Eritrean Commissioner for Sports and Culture and supervisor of the National Football Association, has not yet agreed to the team’s participation in the qualifiers.
Eritrea’s withdrawal extends to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
. The Eritrean national team has been relatively inactive since 2019, participating minimally in official competitions or friendly matches.
