The 3rd International Conference on Water and Climate (CIEC) will be held on July 06 and 07, 2023 in Fez under the theme “Basin management: key for adaptation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this event is organized by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), and the World Water Council ( CMC).
Its main objective is to debate and discuss the implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and to highlight the various international experiences in this area in order to meet the challenges posed by climate change. , the ministry said in a statement.
This international meeting, in which political representatives and international experts will take part, will also be an opportunity to honor basin organizations as key players in all aspects of water resources management, notes the same source.
A strong signal will be given to the international water and climate community on the need to double efforts for the implementation of IWRM at the basin level, as a tool for adaptation to climate change, according to the press release.
Nearly 500 participants from different countries are expected at this event during which five key themes will be discussed: “innovation and technologies for water saving”, “groundwater management”, “governance of water”, “the mobilization of water resources”, and “commitments by and for basins”.
These themes are declined from the speech of HM King delivered on October 14, 2022, on the occasion of the opening of the 2nd legislative year of the 11th legislature, which attached major importance to the water challenges facing Morocco. The 1st and 2nd CIEC took place respectively in Rabat in 2016 and in Marseille in 2017, it is recalled.
