Facebook launched Wednesday “Instagram Lite”, a light version of its famous Instagram social network which will be deployed on Android in 170 countries via PlayStore while no iOS version is planned for the moment.
This light version retains the main features such as publishing, editing photos and sharing “stories” but only measures two megabytes, compared to 30 MB of the classic Instagram application.
It is also possible to send direct messages, record and publish videos.
The “Reels” tab is also present on the home page unlike the Shopping tab which disappears.
However, users will not be able to create their own “Reels” or use augmented reality filters at this time.
Other less data-intensive authoring tools, such as stickers, GIFs, and text, can still be used.
Although “Instagram Lite” is designed for new markets, it can be used by anyone.
