The extractive sector ended 2021 with an improvement in its production index of 2.1%, consolidating a 5% increase a year earlier, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
This progression follows growth of 5.8% and 6.3% respectively in the third and first quarters of 2021, as well as declines of 1.9% and 1.3% respectively in the fourth and second. quarter of 2021, specifies the DEPF which has just published its economic report for the month of March 2022.
As for phosphate production, the main component of this sector, it rose by 1.8% at the end of 2021, after +6.1% a year earlier.
Exports of phosphate and derivatives appreciated, in value, by 123.7% in the first month of 2022. This development follows an increase of 57.1% at the end of 2021 and 13.3% one year. earlier, due to the increase in foreign sales of phosphate derivatives by 135.9% and phosphate rock by 34.4%.
This dynamic stems from the continued rise in the export prices of these products, in particular, the prices of fertilizers (+148.6%), those of phosphoric acid (+104.9%) and those of phosphate rock. (+106%).
