The Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art will house, from July 7 to October 9, 2021, the exhibition “Delacroix, memories of a trip to Morocco”, a first on the African continent and in the Arab world.
“Almost two centuries after his trip to Morocco, the painter Eugène Delacroix returns to Rabat, to the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, from July 7 to October 9, 2021. The exhibition + Delacroix, souvenirs of a trip to Maroc +, organized with the National Museum Eugène-Delacroix – Public Establishment of the Louvre Museum, is a first on the African continent and in the Arab world, ”said the National Museum Foundation on Monday.
“Delacroix, souvenirs d’un voyage au Maroc” retraces the painter’s journey through paintings, drawings, watercolors but also almost all of the objects, clothes, weapons and musical instruments that he brought back from his journey and which accompanied him throughout his artistic career. He is thus the first ambassador of light and Moroccan colors that captivate him, of the costumes and traditions that he designs and paints with wonder, underlines the Foundation in a press release, noting that upon his return to France, and until at his death, the artist continues to reproduce in his works the many influences brought back from his trip
This exhibition-event will allow Moroccans to discover the history of the painter and of this trip which also provides a key to reading and understanding this period in Morocco, on the historical, diplomatic and above all artistic levels, according to the same source.
