FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, replacing Manuel Neuer in the German team, has withdrawn from the Euro this summer due to knee surgery.
His operation is scheduled for May 20 in Oslo. It follows a previous surgery in August 2020, which had kept him away from the field until November.
Ter Stegen has only 24 caps for the German team. Coach Joachim Löw has always favored Bayern goalkeeper Neuer, also Mannschaft captain, when he was able to play.
In his absence, the post of goalkeeper number two should fall to Kevin Trapp (Frankfurt) or Bernd Leno (Arsenal).
