ESC preparatory meeting in Jeddah

The work of the Economic and Social Council (CES) preparatory to the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of the 32nd Arab Summit was held on Monday in Jeddah.

The economic and social dossier, which will be presented to Arab leaders at the 32nd Ordinary Summit to be held in Jeddah next Friday, includes a number of topics, including the report of the Secretary General of the League on joint economic and social cooperation of development, the progress made in achieving the requirements of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, the creation of the Customs Union, the implementation of transport agreements, the Arab strategy for tourism, as well as the Arab strategy for communication and information.

In a statement, the spokesman for the Secretary of the League of Arab States, Jamal Rushdi, underlined that the SG of the League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called for the strengthening of Arab economic and social action in order to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable groups in Arab societies, and those who face accumulated difficulties.

He added that the Secretary-General had warned, in a speech before the Council read on his behalf by Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General, against the accumulation of serious challenges that threaten the Arab structure and its fundamental pillars. , sometimes leading to a new wave of displacement and asylum in the region.

Furthermore, Mr. Aboul Gheit congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Places, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for assuming the leadership of the joint Arab action in this year.
