Elon Musk has been forced to remove a massive, flashy X logo that was placed on Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters after it was deemed to be unpermitted.
The logo, which was propped up with sandbags, was installed without the proper permits and drew objections from nearby residents.
The city’s Department of Building Inspection and City Planning received 24 complaints about the logo, citing concerns about its structural integrity and illumination.
The department issued a notice of violation to the owner of the building, who is responsible for the logo, according to Patrick Hannan, the communications director for the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection and City Planning.
Twitter initially refused to allow inspectors to access the roof to inspect the logo, claiming that it was only a “temporary lighted sign for an event.” However, the company eventually relented and the logo was removed.
