The Head of Government, Saâd Eddine El Othmani, affirmed that the response of the Ambassador permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Omar Hilal, concerning the self-determination of Kabylia “is not a political position of the Moroccan state “.
Speaking on the first episode of the MoroccoLatestNews news site’s live talk show, “The Road to the 2021 Elections,” the Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) explained that Omar Hilal’s response during of a virtual meeting of the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), dating from July 15, was “an argumentative reaction and not a political position of the Moroccan state”.
The Head of Government added: “It was the reaction of the Ambassador, permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations. This is not a political position he expressed, but rather a counter-argumentative reaction. If you say that, we say this. But, this is not a political position of Morocco ”.
El Otmani explained that the last royal speech had dotted the i’s on the subject of relations with Algeria, stressing: “Unfortunately, we were hoping that the Algerian reaction would contain reconciliation and cooperation”.
And to recall what was said in the press release from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs following Algeria’s decision to sever diplomatic relations. In this context, he confirmed that “Morocco will always remain faithful to its principle which is to work for the construction of a harmonious and strong Maghreb Union, capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century”.
El Otmani said he was surprised by Algeria’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with the Kingdom. In this wake, he expressed his deep regret that this measure comes “after the third invitation made by King Mohammed VI and his hand extended for reconciliation and the start of a dialogue with the brothers of Algeria unconditionally”.
Recall that the Ambassador, permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Omar Hilal, had criticized the representative of Algeria during a virtual meeting of the NAM, Thursday, July 15, 2021, of having double standards with regard to his dealing with the issue of “self-determination”.
Hilale had criticized the neighbor to the East for setting himself up “as a fervent defender of the right to self-determination, and for refusing this same right to the Kabyle people, one of the oldest peoples in Africa, who suffered the most. long foreign occupation ”.
