Driss Lachgar addressed a letter, as First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), to his Spanish counterpart, leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and no less head of government Pedro Sanchez (copy of which in European Socialist Party (PSE)) and of which Hespress holds a copy.
Without wanting to be virulent or a being any biting, she describes or retraces with “courtesy” the last lived events that “have wreaked havoc on relations between our two countries“Revealing in passing a warning about the provocation of the Spanish Prime Minister towards Morocco. Driss Lachgar criticizes Pedro Sanchez in particular for his visit to occupied Sebta and the deployment of the Spanish army which according to the First Secretary of the USFP “are a show of force aimed at provocation“. He also denounces the inhuman behavior of the occupying forces against migrants “in flagrant violation of human rights and the obligations of the Spanish State“.
Driss Lachgar further said, shocked by the EU announcing that “Sebta and Melilla were in European lands, forgetting that they are geographically in Africa and that they are the vestige of the shameful imperialist and colonial history of many European countries“. It is time, he adds, to discuss the future of these two cities. He further criticizes in his letter to comrade Sanchez, the frenzied campaign by many Spanish media against Morocco and Moroccans with racist and blasphemous descriptions that contradict the principles of journalistic ethics. A campaign that echoes the Spanish position on the Moroccan Sahara issue.
An approach according to Driss Lachgar who wants to be “conspiracy aimed at encircling Morocco and which materialized through financial and media support for the separatists and the establishment of a Madrid-Algiers axis“. And to quote the Ghali case by demolishing the thesis “purely human reasons” invoked by the Spanish Executive. And to also wonder about the historical or administrative responsibility of Spain on the Saharan provinces of Morocco which he says, “participates only in nostalgia for an ignominious colonial past and in contradiction with the values that we defend as social democrats “.
Recalling in passing the colonial history of Spain which had colonized part of northern Morocco, Sidi Ifni, Tarfaya and the Sahara. “After the recovery of these provinces one after another, Spain has never claimed its historical responsibility towards the populations”. Why then is Spain stubborn in claiming its tutelage and responsibility for the Moroccan provinces of the Sahara? “ It is a hostile gesture towards the Moroccan people on a central issue“. And to note that “even at international level positions have evolved“. Driss Lachgar said he was aware that the rupture of relations between our two countries will be harmful to our two peoples. The USFP, the document concludes, “calls out to you and through you, the whole Spanish government to stop insulting Morocco to start approaching the policy of friendship and good neighborliness within the framework of clarity and political and moral responsibility in the service of peace , security and cooperation in the region“.
