Dozens mourn death of Moroccan man shot by Algerian border guards, 3 bullets in his body

Dozens of people gathered at the Sidi Hazem cemetery in Beni Adrar, on the outskirts of Oujda, to mourn the death of a twenty-eight-year-old man who was shot by Algerian border guards.

The man, identified as B.Q, had mistakenly entered Algerian waters on a jet ski. He was admitted to the regional hospital with three bullets in his body, MoroccoLatestNews AR reported.

After a funeral prayer at the Moulay Rachid Mosque, the mourners, accompanied by local authorities and the royal gendarmerie, proceeded to the cemetery for the burial.

The incident occurred when five young men embarked on a jet ski trip from the recreational port of Saidia towards the “Ras El Ma” area in the Nador province. However, on their way back to Saidia, they lost their way and unintentionally entered Algerian waters.

An investigation is being conducted by members of the Royal Gendarmerie in Saidia and Berkane into the incident.

Mustapha Baitas, the official government spokesman, refused to answer a question regarding this case during the press conference that followed the government council meeting on Thursday, stressing that “this issue is currently within the jurisdiction of judicial authorities.”
