An international drug trafficking operation was defeated on Saturday afternoon by elements of the judicial police in the district of Beni Makada in Tangier.
A press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), indicates that the research and investigations carried out in the context of this case made it possible to arrest the owner of a carpentry workshop located in the “Bni Ouassine” douar on the outskirts of Tangier, in flagrante delicto, with two acolytes, of concealing and storing large shipments of chira in wooden planks intended for export from Morocco.
The DGSN specifies that the modus operandi of this criminal network consists in hollowing out the said boards to conceal the drugs there, while proceeding to their re-assembly by coating them with chemicals to avoid their detection by the canine police.
According to the first estimates, the quantity of drugs seized in this workshop would be 2.1 tons of chira, while the operations of extracting drugs from the wooden planks continue.
The defendant and his two accomplices are currently subject to the procedures of the judicial inquiry ordered by the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to elucidate the ins and outs of this affair and to identify the national and international ramifications of this criminal network.
