Decrease in the number of branches to 5,914 in 2022

The total number of bank branches in operation at the national level amounted to 5,914 in 2022, against 6,065 a previous year, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).

This development results from the closure of 189 branches and the opening of 38 new ones, specifies BAM in a document on the national banking establishment for the 2022 financial year. In detail, the national banking network has, in 2022,

5,715 conventional bank branches, compared to 5,880 in 2021, 9 offshore banks and 190 participatory banks (compared to 176 branches in 2021).

By bank, Attijariwafa Bank had 52 closures in the year sold, Crédit Populaire du Maroc 38 closures, Bank Of Africa (26), BMCI (21) Société Générale Maroc (21), Crédit du Maroc (19), Al Barid Bank (11 ) and CIH (1).

In addition, Crédit Populaire du Maroc has the densest network in Morocco with 1,386 branches, followed by Attijariwafa bank (957), Al Barid Bank (941), Bank Of Africa (680), Crédit Agricole du Maroc (491) , Société Générale Maroc (353), CIH (316), BMCI (288) and Crédit du Maroc (264).

At the level of participatory banks, Umnia Bank has the largest network with 50 branches (4 openings in 2022), followed by Bank Assafa with 41 branches and Bank Al Yousr with 25 branches (6 openings in 2022).

In addition, the document shows that by region, Casablanca-Settat comes first with 1,690 agencies, ahead of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (880), Fès-Meknes (683) and Tangier Tetouan Al Hoceima (571).
