Death of Omar Salim, a great figure in the Moroccan press

After long months of fighting illness, the great journalist Omar Salim passed away on Monday July 17, plunging the national media world into deep sadness.

Former emblematic figure of Médi 1 and ex-director of programs and information for the 2M channel, Omar Salim was rushed to a private clinic in Casablanca on Tuesday July 11, in critical condition.

According to his son, Karim Benamar, himself a journalist, Omar Salim was placed ” under artificial respiration ” following ” cardiac shock requiring admission to intensive care“. Sadly, he passed away on Monday.

In 2021, Omar Salim had already been hospitalized for the second time in two years, due to an intestinal bacterium which had seriously affected his neurological system.

Omar Salim left behind an invaluable journalistic legacy. His sharp pen and his unfailing commitment to the search for the truth marked many minds. His years as Director of Programs and Information at 2M witnessed his passion for a free and responsible press.
