Death of director Chakib Benomar

Moroccan director Chakib Benomar died Thursday morning in Rabat at the age of 72 after a long illness, his family said.

The late Benomar was one of the pioneers of television fiction in Morocco, where he made his debut in the mid-1970s.

Graduated from the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) in Paris in 1971, he joined Moroccan television and directed a dozen television serials, the latest of which is “Spider Web” (2014).

The deceased is the first Moroccan to be crowned best director at the Cairo Television Festival in 1998 for his soap opera “Wolves in a Circle”.
