Davos: Akhannouch looks back on the historic feat of the Atlas Lions

The performance of the Atlas Lions during the Qatar 2022 World Cup has remained etched in the memory of all those who have followed the historic journey of Walid Regragui’s men from near or far. After all, the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, talked about it again this Wednesday during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Indeed, the national football team’s meteoric run in this world-class competition has truly impressed many onlookers, as the Atlas Lions were the first African and Arab team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. . This is also the reason why the historical feat of Moroccan players was mentioned during the Davos Forum through a question that the president of the Forum, Klaus Schwab, asked the Chief Executive.

In response, Aziz Akhannouch said that ” it is true that we were also surprised. Morocco has always had a great football team. It is not a coincidence. It’s a lot of work, there has been a lot of investment and supervision and it has been closely followed by the King“.

“We have training schools that we have professionalized at the national level, in particular the Academy which bears the name of His Majesty King Mohammed VI”, he said, adding that “it is a very good club , its players are part of the biggest international clubs“.

The Head of Government did not fail to point out that during the several matches played, players were committed and had a strong fighting spirit, saying they ” went there to win, to succeed“. For Akhannouch, the team had a strong determination to win and were very attentive.

He recalled that at every time the team won a match, at least 1 million Moroccans took to the streets to celebrate and so this exchange was very important for us“, while stopping on the values ​​of solidarity, commitment, family relations and the importance of women in Moroccan society. ” It was a fantastic moment for Moroccans and I think it really expresses the values ​​that all companies and states want to share“, he clarified.

It should be noted that the Chief Executive chairs the Moroccan delegation which is taking part in the World Forum scheduled for January 16 to 20. The latter will notably be represented by Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, Leïla Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and evaluation of public policies, and Ali Seddiki, director general of the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investments and Exports (AMDIE).

In addition, 2,700 participants will attend this economic meeting, including 1,500 business leaders and around fifty Heads of State, who will also meet to conduct bilateral talks, negotiate contracts and investments, and share initiatives launched by their countries.
