Cristiano Ronaldo will not be on the pitch for Manchester United’s game against Liverpool on Tuesday as the Portuguese star copes with the loss of his newborn son.
Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced their devastating loss in a joint statement posted on social media on Monday. Manchester United have been supportive of Ronaldo and his family during these difficult times.
“Family is more important than anything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this extremely difficult time. As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the game against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night and underline the family’s request for confidentiality.”wrote the English club.
Manchester United also offered their condolences on Twitter. “Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano”, tweeted the club.
CR7 and his companion had announced on social networks that they had lost their boy who had just been born, while a little twin girl was in good health.
The Portuguese superstar had scored a hat-trick on Saturday, which allowed Manchester to beat bottom-running Norwich (3-2) and relaunch themselves in the race for the Champions League.
“It is with our greatest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It’s the greatest pain any parent can feel“, reads their statement.
“Only the birth of our little girl gives us the strength to live this moment with a little hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all of their expert care and support. We are all devastated by this loss and kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our little boy, you are our angels. We will always love you”.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez began their relationship in 2016. The couple, who have one child together, Alana Martina, announced they were expecting twins in October.
In addition to the children he shares with Rodriguez, Ronaldo has twins born via surrogate, Mateo and Eva Marie, and a son, Cristiano Jr.
