British authorities have reported the exemption of travelers fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in the European Union and the United States from quarantine in England. This measure, which comes into force from next Monday, will not however be applied to travelers from France, a decision that the French authorities have qualified as “discriminatory”.
In this sense, the French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, stressed Thursday that the maintenance of a quarantine in England for travelers from France is “incomprehensible” and “discriminatory”.
Invited on the LCI channel, he considered this maintenance “excessive and incomprehensible on a health plan (…) It is not scientifically founded”.
And to add: “It is a discriminatory decision towards the French since all Europeans, even countries which have more difficult health situations than ours under the Delta variant or other are no longer concerned by this quarantine. “.
According to the French Secretary of State, London has excluded France “in the name of the Beta variant, the famous South African variant, which represents less than 5% of cases in France” and which mainly concerns overseas territories such as Réunion which are not affected by the flow of travelers to the United Kingdom.
“We say to the British, scientifically, health-wise, there is no justification for this decision. I hope it will be reviewed because it is common sense, ”he said, referring to the continuous review of reciprocity measures, in reaction to the London decision.
