The Descartes high school in Rabat will again have to close its doors and use distance education, until further notice, after “a significant increase in positive cases for the coronavirus within the establishment”.
In a note addressed to the parents of pupils, late in the evening of Thursday March 25, the direction of the lycée of the French mission, explains that the decision to close and return “to a distance education from Saturday March 27, until ‘see you again and according to the normal timetable of the class’, was taken in collaboration with the Moroccan authorities.
“In the last 24 hours we have been informed of 10 cases of positive students for Covid-19 tested at the initiative of their families. They are placed in eviction. These 10 cases are distributed in 6 classes of the establishment, 5 in high school and 1 in college “, indicated the direction to the parents, warning that” the number of cases increases hour by hour. As required by the health protocol, we have 400 contact cases listed at this time, among students and adults ”.
The management also advances, that the students would have taken part in gatherings (parties) which would be at the origin of this outbreak of cases. “Two parties and birthdays would have been recently organized and some of our students would have participated including students 100% distanced since the start of the school year. Such irresponsible acts undermine the efforts of the Moroccan health authorities and those of the staff of the establishment ”.
An authority official, invited to the meeting held by the establishment, assured that legal measures will be taken against the parents of students who organized or authorized these parties, while urging the association of parents to students to educate parents against this kind of irresponsible behavior that can seriously harm the health of children.
We therefore once again call on parents of students to ensure strict compliance by their children with the distancing instructions and barrier measures during private activities, evenings and weekends. At 1 p.m. today, in collaboration with the health authorities, PCR tests will be carried out in the establishment.
For its part, the management also invited the parents of students “to ensure strict compliance by their children with distancing instructions and barrier measures during private activities”.
As a reminder, the establishment had already been forced to close last November, following a decision by the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, to suspend face-to-face classes. , until the implementation of preventive measures decided by the competent health authorities, in order to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
The Lycée had been pointed out for non-compliance with the preventive measures put in place by the health authorities to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
