The government announced on Wednesday the decision to introduce a night curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the month of Ramadan, on the basis of the recommendations of the National Scientific Committee, which held a long meeting on the matter.
According to a member of the committee who took part in the meeting, the situation “is more worrying after the outbreaks recorded in recent days, especially the past 24 hours, with a total of 696 cases recorded Tuesday, including 528 in the region of Casablanca alone. Settat, in addition to the propagation of new variants ”.
“It is clear, in view of what is happening in the street, that the citizens have let go and dropped the preventive measures relating in particular to gatherings, the wearing of protective masks, which could give rise to a new outbreak” , he warned.
And to underline that this relaxation, added to the propagation of the new variants, could generate a situation out of control in the days to come, and therefore to a tightening of the restrictions for a long time to come ”.
The member of the scientific committee also made a point of clarifying that the watch and the resulting measures “do not concern only the holy month, but in a global way, the epidemiological situation in the country, on the basis of concrete scientific data. “.
Note that the scientific committee communicates its analyzes, conclusions and recommendations to the Ministry of Health, which in turn decides on the measures to be taken to contain the situation, including during the month of Ramadan.
As a reminder, a few days ago, Pr. Azzedine Ibrahimi, director of the biotechnology laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Rabat, and member of the Covid-19 Scientific Committee, warned against that the “situation is semi -stable, epidemiologically and genetically worrying ”, noting that Morocco remains behind by almost a month compared to Europe in terms of epidemiology and genomics.
In a long post on his Facebook page, Pr. Ibrahimi, called for great caution in dealing with Covid-19, “especially since our vaccination process is not yet finished, and is still at the mercy of the international vaccine market ”.
“What worries me is coming out of the Covid-19 crisis with the summer, and more particularly with Eid al-Adha, God willing, with the least human, social and economic losses “, He said, before adding” if we have to take the risks, it is better to do so with the advent of summer. Because the economic, social and health benefits are more important to take risks now ”.
