The General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, made it known that the Central Office for Judicial Studies (BCIJ) succeeded, early this Thursday, March 25, in dismantling a terrorist cell made up of four elements aged 24 to 28, operating in the city of Oujda and affiliated with the ideology of the “Islamic State”.
The terrorist cell had been dismantled and its imminent extremist plans aborted thanks to close coordination between the services of the DGST and those of US intelligence, “which once again confirms the importance of cooperation in combating terrorist threats and demonstrates the effectiveness of first-rate partnerships, which play a key role in the success of operations to combat terrorism and violent extremism, ”said the DGST.
The members of this terrorist cell were arrested during simultaneous security operations in four different residential areas of the city of Oujda, during which the special forces of the DGST were forced to use sound bombs to neutralize the danger. emanating from the prime suspect, while the second suspect was chased over the rooftops of neighboring houses and arrested while trying to flee, under conditions that threatened both his safety and that of others.
The searches carried out at the home of the main suspect within this terrorist cell, made it possible to seize a large sum of money in European currency, and four passports (those of the members of the cell which he kept in a safe place at his home, as well as bladed weapons, in addition to information devices which will be subject to the necessary technical expertise.
The preliminary research carried out showed that the members of this terrorist cell declared their “loyalty” to the alleged emir of “the Islamic State”, and planned to join the camps of this terrorist organization in the Sahel region, before d ” be tasked by one of the leaders of “Islamic State” with carrying out terrorist plans inside the Kingdom, targeting vital national installations, security headquarters and military barracks, according to official sources .
In this sense, the DGST clarified that the first elements of the investigation reveal that the arrested suspects had carried out several reconnaissance operations to monitor and identify the sensitive installations to be targeted, because they were seeking to acquire experience in the manufacture of explosive devices, supported in this by the logistical and financial support of the aforementioned emir.
This new proactive operation, “confirms the continuation of the terrorist threats which threaten the security of the Kingdom and the stubbornness of the extremists imbued with the ideology of the Daesh organization, in carrying out terrorist operations aimed at seriously undermining the security of the people and public order, underlined the DGST.
The accused arrested within the framework of this terrorist cell were placed in custody at the disposal of the preliminary investigation, carried out under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism cases, with a view to revealing all their plans and projects. terrorists and to determine all the ramifications and possible links of this terrorist cell, both nationally and globally.
