Following the signing of a bilateral Moroccan-Swiss cooperation agreement at COP27, the Swiss Klik Foundation launched a series of activities in Morocco aimed at supporting the development of programs relating to sustainable climate protection. and promoting the reduction of carbon emissions.
The Foundation for Climate Protection and CO2 Compensation KliK has announced its support for the development of climate protection programs in Morocco, an activity that falls within the framework of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. According to the Foundation’s press release, the way is clear for this ambitious climate action“, noting that Morocco and Switzerland signed, last month, a bilateral cooperation agreement under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement during COP27 held in Sharm el-Sheikh.
This cooperation will be accompanied by investments in climate change mitigation technologies. The aim is to foster more efficient and innovative businesses as well as more modern and cleaner technologies in Morocco. Until 2030, the KliK Foundation plans to support mitigation technologies in Morocco with USD 100 million.
The same source indicated that these programs will complement Morocco’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation activities and which will meet the highest environmental standards of both countries and thus increase the ambition of climate action. of the Kingdom.
To do this, organizations interested in developing this type of programs, as well as companies that develop and implement climate-friendly technologies and innovations, suitable for the creation of ITMOs (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes), can register and submit their program ideas on the newly created national platform morocco.klik.ch, the statement announced, adding that “ all information about the activities of the KliK Foundation, the process of applying for financial support, the eligibility criteria and the process of participating in submitting program projects for financial support are available on the mentioned platform“.
The environmental player said that several program ideas are already being developed by renowned international companies, including the Energy Efficiency Fund program of South Pole Group, Econoler Inc. and Attijari Invest SA, or the Organic Waste to Energy program of First Climate, GGGI and MSConex.
It should be noted that the KliK Foundation, created in 2012 by the Petroleum Union today under the name of Avenergy Switzerland, is the carbon offsetting group for Swiss fuel importers, set up within the framework of the Swiss law on CO2 to offset part of the carbon emissions resulting from the use of fuels in Switzerland. To this end, the KliK Foundation supports and organizes international climate protection programs in accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement with the aim of purchasing the resulting ITMOs.
