The head of government Aziz Akhannouch, affirmed that Morocco adopted a global approach for the transition to a green economy in its Climate Plan, Monday in Riyadh, on the occasion of the Summit of the Green Initiative of the Middle East (MGI).
Representing King Mohammed V at the first edition of the annual Saudi Green Initiative Forum in Riyadh, the head of government intervened to talk about the Moroccan experience and its ambitions.
Thus, in his speech, Aziz Akhannouch explained that within the framework of the National Climate Plan 2020-2030 adopted by Morocco, the kingdom has clearly taken sustainable development into account in a comprehensive and participatory strategy.
This strategy stems from royal guidelines and a political will to implement a responsible climate policy, and a transition to a green economy. The National Climate Plan 2020-2030, recalled, the head of government, was established in accordance with the recommendations of the international body of climate experts and the objectives of sustainable development.
Among its objectives are accelerating the transformation towards a low-emission economy, implementing climate policies at the local level, and encouraging innovation to face the challenges of climate change.
Aziz Akhannouch recalled that the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 SDG Agenda constitute two essential points in strengthening global climate action, the transition to low-emission development and the consolidation of the culture of mainstreaming sustainability into all vital sectors of the national economy.
In addition, he congratulated Saudi Arabia for making a historic decision on Saturday, announcing its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. Morocco praises and highly welcomes this initiative as well as the Green Initiative forum. Saudi Arabian, he said.
These initiatives “clearly reflect the forward-looking vision of the leaders of the brother Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to meet the main challenges related to the environment and the phenomenon of climate change”. He said, praising the efforts made by Saudi Arabia to ensure the protection of the environment and its actions during its presidency of the G20.
