Chile reaffirmed, through the voice of the President of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Chilean Senate, Francisco Chahuán, its “unwavering” support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative proposed by the Kingdom with a view to reaching a definitive solution to the regional dispute. around the Moroccan Sahara.
“Chile has an unwavering position in supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity. It is a question of principle of its foreign policy, which remains unchanged and which constitutes one of the constants of the democratic governments of our country”, underlined, Monday in Rabat, Mr. Chahuán, in a statement to the press at the outcome of his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.
“The visit to Morocco by the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chilean Senate supports the firm position of the State of Chile for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and we wish to collaborate so that other countries can join this proposal. , especially in the Latin America region,” added Mr. Chahuán, who is leading a large delegation from the Chilean Senate visiting the Kingdom, at the invitation of the House of Councillors.
After noting that the two countries face common challenges, Mr. Chahuán expressed his country’s full readiness to strengthen cooperation with Morocco, through a free trade agreement that would strengthen commercial ties between Morocco and Chile, expressing in this regard the great interest that their country attaches to the fertilizer sector in Morocco, as well as to the development of the green hydrogen sector.
As part of his working visit to the Kingdom, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chilean Senate will have several meetings with a number of Moroccan officials.
