CHAN 2023: CAF decides to cancel Morocco matches

The African Football Confederation (CAF) has decided to cancel the matches of Morocco, which was unable to make the trip, within the framework of the African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) TotalEnergies Algeria 2022

In a communicated published on its official website, this Thursday, January 19, CAF announces a modification of the calendar of Group C of CHAN »

It specifies that “in accordance with the resolution of the Organizing Committee for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) TotalEnergies Algeria 2022, the group C program has been updated as follows:

Match 13 “Morocco vs Madagascar” is cancelled.
Match 21 “Ghana vs Morocco” is cancelled.
Match 22 “Sudan vs Madagascar” initially scheduled in Oran, will now be played in Constantine”.

“The Organizing Committee has decided, in accordance with the Competition Regulations, that Group C will consist of three teams and that the first two teams will qualify for the knockout stage”, adds the text.

This cancellation puts an end to the false information conveyed by the Algerian media which kept mentioning a withdrawal of Morocco from the competition, even calling for sanctions against the country.

Pushing the ridicule to its maximum, the Algerian committee in charge of the organization even went so far as to align the opposing team, whistle the start of the match, and declare Morocco’s withdrawal, inflicting a defeat on green carpet (3- 0).

This scenario, staged against Sudan, was to be repeated against Ghana and Madagascar, in an attempt until the last minute to make people believe that the Moroccan national team withdrew from the competition, and not prevented from participating in order to purely political considerations.
