Canada eases residency procedures for Moroccans affected by Al Haouz earthquake

Canada’s government has announced special and temporary measures following the earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8, to facilitate the extended stay of Moroccan citizens in Canada, especially those wishing to extend their temporary residency due to the earthquake.

According to the Canadian government’s official website, these special measures, which will be in effect until March 12, 2024, will waive some processing fees for Moroccan applicants seeking to extend or change the terms of their temporary residency and provide open work permits.

To qualify for these measures, individuals must be present in Canadian territory on or before September 8, 2023, with valid temporary residency.

These measures also include fee exemptions for Canadian citizens or permanent residents in Morocco who have been affected by the earthquake and need to replace their travel documents or documents related to their nationality to return to Canada, the same source noted.
