The Organizing Committee for the TotalEnergies Algeria 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) met on Monday in Algiers in accordance with the competition rules to decide the outcome of Group C marked by the absence of Morocco.
On this occasion, it was decided that Group C will consist of three teams, with the direct consequence of qualifying the first two teams for the knockout phase. The Organizing Committee of CHAN also seized the competent judicial body of CAF about the absence of Morocco in the match scheduled for yesterday in Constantine against Sudan.
As a reminder, Morocco had contacted CAF to obtain the necessary authorizations for a direct RAM flight Rabat-Constantine, to allow the Moroccan selection to take part in the championship and defend its title.
Until the last minute of January 13, the opening day, Moroccan players had hoped to fly to Algeria, but the required authorizations never arrived. Morocco then informed that it “is unable to make the trip”.
The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, deplored this situation, assuring that the fact of depriving the Moroccan selection of taking part in CHAN, organized in Algeria, is “a very deplorable act”.
