Burkina Faso reaffirms its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative

Burkina Faso reaffirmed, on Friday, its support for the autonomy plan initiative presented by Morocco, stressing that this plan constitutes “the only credible and realistic solution” for the resolution of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In the Joint Communique sanctioning the work of the fourth session of the Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Dakhla, under the co-chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita and his Burkinabe counterpart, Olivia Ragnaghnewendé Rouamba, the head of Burkinabe diplomacy also recalled Burkina Faso’s “firm and constant” support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.

In this sense, she underlined that the opening by Burkina Faso of a Consulate General in Dakhla, on October 23, 2020, is in line with the continuity of its historical position.

The Burkinabé Minister also hailed the efforts of the United Nations Organization as an exclusive and consensual framework for reaching a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.
