The Brazilian Senate adopted, on Tuesday, a motion in support of the Moroccan autonomy initiative in the Sahara, calling for “more expressive” support for the “serious and reliable” efforts of the Kingdom in the search for a solution to this conflict. regional.

“Brazil has always taken a constructive and sensible position regarding this regional conflict. The moment is opportune for our country to consider the autonomy proposal presented by Morocco as a realistic and pragmatic basis for a political solution in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” reads the motion signed by 28 senators. Brazilians from different political persuasions.

The climate of trust that exists between Morocco and Brazil “will be further strengthened by Brazil’s more express support within the United Nations Security Council for the serious and reliable efforts that Morocco has deployed in the search for a political solution. consensual and peaceful solution to the regional conflict of the Sahara”, underlines the motion.

In this motion approved in plenary, the Brazilian senators express their “support for the Kingdom of Morocco, in the search for a political, consensual, peaceful and lasting solution to the regional conflict of the Sahara, thanks to the efforts made in this regard by this country “.

“We consider that a favorable position of Brazil will open a very ambitious perspective for the two countries to continue building a multifaceted and mutually beneficial strategic partnership,” notes the Brazilian Senate.

The motion notes that “Brazil and Morocco are developing, in a spirit of trust and mutual respect, a multifaceted strategic partnership. This partnership is based on the values ​​of tolerance and openness that the two countries have in common, as well as on their common vision of the opportunities and challenges of the contemporary world”.

Thus, “the two countries have great potential for cooperation in several areas, mainly food security”, underline the Brazilian senators, noting that Brazil and Morocco have implemented, in recent years, a legal framework that covers several sectors. , such as investment facilitation, defence, avoidance of double taxation, customs cooperation, digital transition, vocational training, scientific research, among others.

The motion was presented by Senator Hiran Manuel Gonçalves da Silva, of the Progressive Party, who highlighted during the plenary “the improvement of the climate of trust and cooperation between Brazil and Morocco in several areas”.

This situation, according to the senator, “could be strengthened with the support of Brazil, within the United Nations Security Council, “for the serious and reliable efforts that Morocco has made in the search for a consensual and peaceful political solution to the regional conflict of the Sahara”.
