The Canarian president clarified that he “ is evident that the good relations between the two countries have led to greater vigilance “. In fact, according to figures from the Spanish government, irregular immigration has fallen sharply with 69% fewer arrivals in January compared to the same month of 2022 on the Andalusian coast, and 82% in the case of the Canary Islands, thanks to enhanced security cooperation between Morocco and Spain.

The President of the Canary Islands had also qualified this first official visit to Morocco as “successful”, indicating that it is a visit which ” was necessary and gave very good results”, especially in economic terms.

It should be recalled that Ángel Víctor Torres traveled to Morocco on March 15 and 16, 2023, accompanied by representatives of Canarian companies, to discuss new opportunities that could expand economic and commercial ties with the Kingdom.

It is a visit during which the President of the Canary Islands was received by Moroccan officials, including the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, but also by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami.

In particular, he insisted, long before his arrival in Morocco, on the importance of a border territory like the Canary Islands having the best possible relations with its neighbours, noting that good neighborliness with Morocco has a particular weight for various reasons, including international, commercial and economic relations and the control of migratory flows.
