US President Joe Biden, 79, fell while trying to get off his stationary bike on Saturday morning in Delaware, where he spends the weekend, but quickly got up and said he was “well”.
During a bike ride in Rehoboth Beach, a small seaside town where he regularly spends weekends in his villa on the ocean, the president fell around 9:40 a.m., according to a journalist from the presidential pool.
Biden had wanted to stop to speak to passers-by and reporters waiting for him, but said he had trouble dislodging his foot from the pedal, equipped with a toe clip. He fell sideways, while his bike was immobilized, according to a video of the journalist.
He was immediately surrounded by members of his security, but quickly got to his feet. Asked about his condition, he replied: “I’m fine”.
During this ride, he was accompanied during his walk by his wife, Jill Biden, who did not witness the fall, having continued on her way. The couple mark their 45th anniversary this weekend.
As a reminder, in November 2020, Joe Biden, already elected but not yet president, had fractured his foot while playing with one of his two German shepherds, Major.
