President Joe Biden’s administration said he was in contact with Moroccan officials after an earthquake struck the country on Friday night.
The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.8, struck late Friday and was felt in several cities across Morocco. At least 820 people have died.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake in Morocco. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this terrible hardship.”
He said that his administration is working to ensure the safety of American citizens in Morocco and that the United States stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to the Moroccan people.
