In a statement to the press following a working meeting devoted to the progress of the complementary program for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the old medina of Essaouira (2019-2023), Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid also stressed the imperative of developing a practical strategy to highlight and further promote cultural tourism.
He, in the same vein, emphasized the strong will that animates the various actors for action on the ground, highlighting the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage that abounds in the city of Essaouira.
Hence, he continued, the importance of taking advantage of these opportunities and this invaluable potential and investing more in this area.
The Minister did not fail to salute the action and the efforts made by the various stakeholders and stakeholders to ensure the success of this ambitious program for the rehabilitation of the old medina and, therefore, the development of the city of Essaouira. .
This meeting was enhanced by the participation, in particular of the Adviser to HM the King and founding president of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, Mr. André Azoulay, the Minister for National Territorial Development, Urbanism, housing and city policy, Mrs. Fatima Zohra El Mansouri, the wali of the Marrakech-Safi Region, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, the governor of the province of Essaouira, the president of the council of the Marrakech-Safi region and the presidents of the provincial and communal councils of Essaouira.
This meeting, which was also attended by regional and provincial officials of the services concerned, was an opportunity to take stock of the steps taken in the context of this large-scale project and to pinpoint the constraints and problems encountered. to find appropriate solutions.
It was punctuated by presentations focusing in particular on the new generation of urban planning and management mechanisms for the enhancement and enhancement of the old medina of Essaouira, the interventions of the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, of Town Planning, Housing and Town Policy for the improvement of citizens’ living conditions and the rehabilitation of this urban fabric, as well as on the progress of the complementary program for the rehabilitation and of the old medina, presented by officials from the Urban Agency, the ministry and the Al Omrane development holding company.
At the end of this meeting, a field visit was made to various sites, in particular the Sqala of the port and the emblematic space “Bayt Dakira”, and to projects in progress in the old Medina of Essaouira. , the opportunity to follow more exhaustive explanations on this program and to inquire in-situ of the state of progress of the various interventions programmed within the framework of this major project.
