Beloved ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry passes away at 54

US actor Matthew Perry, renowned for his role of the witty Chandler Bing in the iconic ’90s TV series Friends, has passed away at the age of 54.

Law enforcement sources have confirmed his death at his Los Angeles residence. Reports suggest that Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home.

Friends, which chronicled the lives of six young friends in New York City, aired from 1994 to 2004 and achieved remarkable popularity, with its final episode drawing 52.5 million US viewers.

Warner Bros, the production company behind Friends, lauded Perry as a “true gift to us all.”

Born in Massachusetts in 1969 and raised in Ottawa, Canada, Perry attended elementary school with future Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Perry gained international fame for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, a character known for his sharp wit and enduring friendships with the show’s ensemble cast.
