The Olympic flame was transmitted Tuesday in Athens to the organizers of the Beijing Winter Olympics (OG), before joining China.
Hellenic Olympic Committee President Spyros Kapralos gave a lantern containing the flame to Beijing-2022 Organizing Committee Vice President Yu Zaiqing during a ceremony at the Panathenaic Stadium. The Beijing Winter Olympics, which will begin on February 4, 2022, will take place without foreign spectators, except the Chinese public, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fully vaccinated participants will be exempt from quarantine. However, the unvaccinated must observe 21 days of isolation, except case by case exemption with a proof of medical exemption.
These instructions imposed by the International Olympic Committee are only the beginning of a series of measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which had already disrupted the preparation for the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
